Today in my EPQ supervised lesson we went through how to create good, effective presentations and how to make them engaging. This involved being given a random topic and 20 minutes to research and create a slide about it to then be presented to the class.
The topic I was given was 'Washing' and after doing some brief research I decided to base it around the washing machine vs. hand washing debate.

I found it very hard to talk about something with so little research behind it, this is why I went for a topic I already had some opinions on which made it a little easier.
Evaluation
After I delivered my presentation I got the following positive feedback:
Negative feedback:
What I will therefore do
Therefore when I create and present my real presentation I plan to carefully proof read and check spelling and wear something without pockets to force me to engage the audience with my hands. I will try to replicate my use of animation and layout and try to implement a personal touch into it as well. However I had some issues with Google Docs when creating this so if I choose to do a power point I shall use Microsoft Power Point which I am much more confident with.
What I've Learnt
This is the third practice presentation I have done so I am feeling more and more confident for my final one as I get more and more feedback. I have also noticed that I have improved in my presentation giving, for instance I am much more confident when speaking and am now regularly making eye contact with my audience.
Evaluation
After I delivered my presentation I got the following positive feedback:
- The layout of my slide was very good because it was clear, readable and very obvious about what I was speaking about
- The animation was engaging and did well to emphasise my points (the pictures spun when I introduced that side of the argument and the text boxes came in when I spoke about them)
- They also liked the personal touch I added to it i.e. I mentioned my own experiences about being forced to wash up which they felt really engaged them. However when thinking about my presentation which will be about Alexander the Great it may be difficult to make it anecdotal in terms of the research and my findings, but by discussing my process I could make it personal
Negative feedback:
- I presented with my hands in my pockets which wasn't at all engaging and it was suggested that I should be using hands to emphasise the points I made to engage the audience which I agree with
- Spelling was also an issue, for instance 'handwashing' is really two words 'hand washing'
