I found writing this section the easiest yet because my argument was very simple (the scale of Alexander's achievement is great). This suggests to me that I shouldn't be over thinking my dissertation and whilst I shouldn't go for arguments that are just easy to write about I should try and word my arguments in a way that is simple and easily understandable. This will benefit me in two ways: one, it will make my dissertation easier to write as proved by this section; two, it will make my dissertation's argument much clearer and more understandable. What I have learnt from this, and that I will apply when I proof read my work, is that I shouldn't try to over complicate arguments for the sake of it. It is much better to have a clear argument written in perhaps a less elaborate way than an elaborately written argument that is less clear. This is what I shall take from writing this section.
On the whole, however, I am happy with this section though as previously mentioned I am getting more and more concerned with how long my dissertation is turning out to be. I will stick with what I said in my last post about not acting on it yet, I would rather finish and know exactly what I have to work with than make any changes now, but I believe I may have to condense my dissertation at the end. Although there is no strict word limit I believe that condensing my dissertation will help make it clearer as I found with my history coursework that writing to a word limit makes my work more concise and more understandable, and although this is a much bigger piece of work than that of my history coursework I would imagine the same principle applies.
Overall I am happy with my progress and how I am planning in detail and writing these sections so I shall continue doing what I am doing with the next sections.
